Chattanooga, TN - December 23, 2025 - REPOWR, the collaborative trailer-sharing marketplace helping fleets turn idle equipment into earning assets, today released its inaugural industry report, The State of Trailer Utilization 2025. The report provides a first-of-its-kind, data-driven look into how trailer capacity actually behaves across the U.S. freight network using real-time marketplace activity rather than surveys or estimates.
Drawing from anonymized booking, utilization, and movement data across REPOWR’s national trailer network, the report highlights a fundamental mismatch between how trailers are traditionally managed and how freight actually moves today. One of the most striking findings: 72% of trailer reservations are fulfilled same day, with an average of just six hours from booking to pickup, underscoring the urgent, tactical nature of capacity demand.
“For years, the industry has talked about trucks, rates, and drivers, but trailers have been a blind spot,” said Chris Hines, CEO of REPOWR. “This report makes it clear that idle trailers aren’t neutral assets; they’re financial liabilities. More importantly, they’re opportunities. When trailers are positioned dynamically and shared collaboratively, they become a powerful lever for profitability and resilience.”
The report also reveals that 83% of trailers rented on REPOWR do not return to their original market, confirming that freight flows are overwhelmingly directional rather than loop-based. This challenges long-standing assumptions about static trailer pools and highlights the need for more flexible, networked approaches to equipment management.
Additional findings show that 77% of trailers listed on REPOWR generate at least one revenue booking, earning an average of $900 per booking, validating trailer-sharing as a practical and scalable solution to underutilization. Demand is also highly concentrated around major freight hubs and surges dramatically during peak produce and retail seasons, accounting for nearly two-thirds of annual activity.
“What makes this data powerful is that it reflects real behavior, not sentiment,” said Matt Harb, VP of Product and Operations at REPOWR. “These insights show exactly where capacity is needed, how fast decisions must be made, and how much value is being left on the table when trailers sit idle.”
As the trucking industry faces continued margin pressure and volatility, the report positions trailer utilization as one of the most immediate and actionable opportunities for cost reduction, revenue generation, and emissions reduction.
